Greatest software ever Okay, I'm sitting here editing photos and had the urge to leave a review. This is the greatest freaking software ever. I can't beleive how easy it is to use and how much time it saves me. HERE'S A MID-REVIEW TIP FOR MASKING TREES: Go nuts with your red dots. Put them all over the place (excep the trees obviously). CombineZP is an amazing software for image stacking. The interface of this focus stacking software is pretty slick and easy to use. Simply load the images that you want to stack, then select the option to stack images. Before yo go on with stacking, you can align the loaded images if the images are out of alignment.

Absolutely!

  1. CombineZP should run fine on an Intel Mac (after you get rid of OS/X and install Windows). Edit: Since a lot of people seem to have missed the point and think this isn't helpful, let me try to put things more directly. I am reasonably certain there is not currently any free (in either sense) software for stacking that runs directly on MacOS and is anywhere close to as good as CombineZP.
  2. The capturing software can then remove this unwanted noise from subsequent images, making the final image less grainy than what would otherwise be possible. In the image below you will notice that I clicked on the “Capture” icon at the top left of the screen to reveal the “Capture Dark” icon.

First, take a good look at the CamRanger camera controller. This little device plugs into your camera and provides wireless connection to a smartphone, tablet, or laptop/desktop computer. It lets you live view and control focus without touching the camera at all. With most cameras, it even provides automatic focus stacking – just set limits and step size, push the Shoot Stack button, and watch the CamRanger and camera do all the work of shooting the stack.

If you're shooting small subjects, then take a look at the StackShot rail, a product of Cognisys Inc. It’s a very slick piece of automation that makes shooting even deep stacks of small subjects quick and painless. Zerene Stacker Professional and Prosumer Editions now include a direct interface to the StackShot rail – see HERE for details.

For larger subjects, consider using software to automatically control the focus motor inside your lens. There are several good alternatives, depending on what type of camera and computer you have. See our Tutorials for more information about those.
